Prof. Dr. Camilo Perez
2017 - 2023 | Professor of Structural Biology
Camilo Perez studied biochemistry at the National University of Colombia in Bogota and received his PhD in Structural Biology from the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) in 2012. After completing his postdoctoral studies at ETH Zurich in 2017, he joined the Biozentrum as Assistant Professor. In 2024, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia, USA. Perez studies the molecular machinery involved in cell wall biogenesis of bacteria, in particular how membrane proteins contribute to cell wall dynamics and adaptation in Gram-positive pathogens. The cell wall biogenesis is a preferred target for the development of novel antibacterial agents. Webpage
